Evaluation of the Faculty in Residence
Under the direction of the Director of Residential Education for Academic Success and Student Care Initiatives, the Associate Director for Academic Engagement and Curricular Learning will evaluate the Faculty in Residence program each semester with input from Academic Success Neighborhood partners, building staff, and residential students. The Faculty-in-Residence and the Associate Director will discuss the program and individual performance at the end of each semester.
Terms of Service
The appointment will be made after consideration of applications submitted for the position and is subject to approval by the Executive Director for Residential Education and/or the Division of Student Affairs & Campus Diversity. The Faculty-in-Residence must sign terms and conditions as well as a housing license agreement before commencing appointment. Re-appointment for subsequent appointments is dependent upon reapplication process, and available funding and is at the discretion of the Residential Education Office. The Faculty-in-Residence is a ten-month position with an option to reapply (two-year limit). Incumbents reappointed for an additional appointment may reside in housing for a full 12 months. Those who are not continuing in the position may reside in the apartment for 11 months (July through May).
The Director of Academic Success and Student Care Initiatives reserves the right to make changes in the FIR Program during the appointment period. The Director of Academic Success and Student Care Initiatives will supervise the evaluation of FIRs on an annual basis in consultation with the Associate Director of Academic Engagement and Curricular Learning, with appropriate student and other stakeholder feedback. The Executive Director of Residential Education, in consultation with the Director of Academic Success and Student Care Initiatives, maintains the right, at his/her discretion, to terminate immediately any FIR who violates any terms or conditions of their appointment, fails or neglects to perform satisfactorily the responsibilities of the position, or violates any University rules, regulations, policies, or procedures.
Package Inclusions
Compensation for the Faculty-in-Residence Program is provided with the understanding that these resources are necessary for enabling regular interaction with residents and fostering community and that FIRs will use these resources for these purposes. The FIR position is an additional voluntary assignment with specific terms and conditions as stated in this agreement and separate from the faculty appointment. There is no salary provided for this assignment. Benefits of the position include:
Housing: A 1-2 bedroom apartment (unfurnished), including utilities (water, electric, trash, and wi-fi internet access) in a residence hall. The program does not cover the cost of moving or liability insurance for personal property. FIRs will be required to sign a residential housing contract with the Office of Housing Administration (OHA). An OHA/REO professional staff member will conduct an inventory of the apartment when the FIR moves in and again when they move out. It is expected that the apartment is clean and all personal items have been removed from the apartment. Failure to comply could result in cleaning charges. With ample notice, FIRs may be subject to reassignment to another apartment (based on departmental needs, renovations/upgrades, etc).
Spouse/Partners/Families: Spouses, partners, and children of FIRs are welcomed by the department. Spouses or partners not affiliated with the university will be required to complete a background check before taking residency on campus.
Pets: Faculty in Residence are permitted to own and keep a single pet in the residence hall under the specific Pet Policy guidelines provided by the Office of Housing Administration. The FIR must contact the Director of Residential Education in writing before acquiring or bringing a pet and complete the necessary procedures and paperwork, including a $500 deposit.
Programming Funds: FIRs will be allotted an annual programming budget of $1,000 for use with residential students. The General Advisor & Retention Specialist(s) in the Residential Education Office manages the budget centrally and assists with all purchasing and logistical needs for programming.
Package Exclusions
Compensation for the Faculty in Residence Program does not include:
Moving or relocation costs.
Parking (FIRs are responsible for the purchase of a FAC/STAFF parking permit). Additional permits for spouses/partners can be purchased through Parking & Transportation Services.
Meal Plan.
