The Joan Art Barron Veterans Center is an office of San Diego State University that serves as a liaison between your use of educational benefits and the VA. After you have been certified through our office, please contact the VA regarding the payment process.
In addition, the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center also houses the Military and Veterans Program making it a dedicated resource hub designed to support those who have served our country and their families. A comprehensive range of services, from academic advising, GI Bill® assistance, career development and a vibrant veteran and military connected community. Our staff and student assistants understand the unique challenges veterans and their families face, and we are here to provide tailored support every step of the way. Whether you're pursuing higher education, exploring career opportunities, or simply seeking camaraderie, our center is your home on campus.
A VA education benefit allows those who have served our nation, are currently serving, or are qualified family member(s) to help pay for college tuition. Depending on the benefit, you may also be assigned a career counselor to help you figure out the right school or training program for you.
Your student records, maintained by San Diego State University, are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA gives you the ability to release your education records to third parties, such as a parent, guardian, spouse, etc. **To inquire about a student's benefits, you MUST have FERPA authorization and the appropriate access code.**
